Spotted Dove
An attractive bird with a black speckled collar the Spotted Dove has a gentle ‘coo coo’ call that’s easily recognisable.
The Spotted Dove was brought into New Zealand as a caged bird but released in Central Auckland in the 1920s and is now found in several areas within the North Island.
Although timid they are creatures of habit and if they find a suitable food source near you they are likely to become regular visitors.
What do Spotted Doves eat?
The Spotted Dove is a ground foraging bird and will eat grass seed or cereals. If you do have them visiting you and you want to feed them they will love a quality bird seed.
